Wordpress Updated to 2.1
January 23rd, 2007 by alexJust updated my blog to Wordpress 2.1 and I am happy with the way it looks and acts. I have read on other blogs that not all plugins might work with the new version of Wordpress but this is not my case, all the plugins that I am using are working and I had now problem upgrading to the latest version. If you want to upgrade your Wordpress blog you can download Wordpress 2.1 here and read the upgrading instructions here.
This new version of WP has some great features…
- Autosave makes sure you never lose a post again
- Tabbed editor allows you to switch between WYSIWYG and code editing instantly while writing a post
- The lossless XML import and export makes it easy for you to move your content between WordPress blogs.
- Visual editor now includes spell checking
- New search engine privacy option allows you to hide your blog from search engines like Google
- You can set any “page” to be the front page of your site, and put the latest posts somewhere else, making it much easier to use WordPress as a content management system
- Much more efficient and faster database code
- Sub-categories support for links in blogroll
- Redesigned login screen from the Shuttle project
- More AJAX to make managing things in WordPress instant
- Pages can now be drafts, or private
- WordPress Admin panel will now load faster and be more visually consistent
- The dashboard now instantly brings RSS feeds asynchronously in the background
- Comment feeds now include all the comments, not just the last 10
- Better internationalization and support for right-to-left languages
- The upload manager lets you easily manage all your pictures, video, and audio
- A new version of the Akismet plugin (2.0) is bundled

UPDATE
I guess I was wrong, there is a problem with the plugin “Subscribe to comments”, so if you use this this plugin you should update the file subscribe-to-comments.php. On line 438 put “(array)” before “get_post_meta(” and you should have something like this “(array)get_post_meta(“.

I haven’t updated my blog yet, will be updating tonight. Glad to see that most of the plugins work and that there’s a fix to subscribe comments plugin.
Did you check out Wordpress ideas pool? I wrote about it on my blog. I’m looking forward to April 23 for the new Wordpress version to see how many of those ideas would be implemented.

Good luck with your upgrade, I hope you won’t have problems. About the Wordpress ideas pool I didn’t found anything on your blog. I will be happy if you can be more specific.
Also would be great if you put “Most Popular Post” and “Latest Posts” on your blog

At the end of my post on Wordpress: http://inspirationbit.com/wordpress-21-new-and-useful-features/
I wrote about Ryan Boren, Wordpress plans for the upcoming versions and ideas pool.
Hey, I like this new thing you have at the end of your posts: PostInfo, Related, Latest and Popular posts - all in one place. Which plugin did you use for that?

There are some good ideas. For “the new thing” there is no plugin, I have made it myself and I am thinking to write an article about that
Maybe tomorrow…

I should have read this post first.
Glad to see there’s a new plugin for Wordpress 2.1. I’ve been waiting to upgrade, as I figured there’d be some issues with the release (there typically are with feature-only releases).
Have you had any trouble now that you’ve had it installed for a while?
January 24th, 2007 at 12:59 pm
Nope, there are no problems ! Is working fine and I really like the new features.

I tried it locally and it`s working as a charm!
I`m thinking of upgrading tonight!
What do you think?

Hello, my upgrade to WP2.1 was not so easy because i had also changed hosting and first i had to upgrade WP on old server then export the data base and import it on the newlly installed WP on other host.
That is because there are some new fields in the database and also fields been renamed.. but its working very smooth for now.
Q: I had a plugin that forward all rss feeds to FeedBurner now this is not working on WP2.1, anyone know something similar that will work ?
Regards.

Good to know that WP 2.1 is working for you now…
What is the name of the plugin you use ?
I suggest you go to the plugin home page and search for updates or methods to make it work with Wordpress 2.1
January 28th, 2007 at 7:37 am
Plugin name is FeedBurner Plugin and can be found here: http://orderedlist.com/wordpress-plugins/feedburner-plugin/
If someone use it with WP2.1 i would be happy to know, maybe i overlook something..
January 28th, 2007 at 7:40 am
I believe that the plugin name is Feedburner Feed Replacement and according to WordPress 2.1 Plugings it`s working probably !
Search for “FeedBurner Plugin 2.2 or later”
