My Bookmarks - 27 feb 2007
February 27th, 2007 by alexI haven’t write to much last week because I needed a break and I have been offline over the weekend. There are many things that happened since last week and I can’t wait to write about them.
Until then I thought to share some good posts from some of the blogs that I frequently read:
- Darren Rowse wrote about the secret confessions of a Link-A-Holic
- Great ideea for blog traffic: Increase Your Traffic by Sending Your Traffic to Other Blogs
- John TP has a great idea for rewarding his regular readers
- Also from John TP, a big question: Will Using MyBlogLog get you banned from Adsense?

Alex, good to have you back. Regarding to the post “Will Using MyBlogLog get you banned from Adsense?”, I think there is a very good chance that Google will ban it. 1) it is owned by yahoo and track the ads clicks
2) it helps generate extra traffic to a websites

How does generating traffic to your website violate Google’s TOS? Isn’t that the point of a website… to get traffic…?!
March 1st, 2007 at 5:27 pm
It all depends on how this traffic has been generated.

exactly, for example ..Google forbidden the use of the blog traffic exchange programs to generate traffic to adsense ads.

From, Google AdSense TOS…
Invalid Clicks and Impressions
Clicks on Google ads must result from genuine user interest. Any method that artificially generates clicks or impressions on your Google ads is strictly prohibited. These prohibited methods include but are not limited to repeated manual clicks or impressions, using robots, automated click and impression generating tools, third-party services that generate clicks or impressions such as paid-to-click, paid-to-surf, autosurf, and click-exchange programs, or any deceptive software. Please note that clicking on your own ads for any reason is prohibited. Failure to comply with this policy may lead to your account being disabled.
- I think it is up to Google to decide what is “artifical impression”..

I don’t think MyBlogLog generates “artifical impressions” / The thing that is going on is that MyBlogLog is tracing links not generating them.

No, it is not against the TOS to have MBL on the same page as adSense. MBL is not clicking the ads, or generating impressions, nor can they. What MBL is doing is using their javascript code to track what is clicked on just like any other javascripted analytics code can do (eg - Google Analytics, Crazy Egg, etc.)
The ONLY reason that Google MIGHT think about not allowing MBL to display on adSense pages is because in their TOS Google says that you cannot disclose your CTR rates to third parties.
Since, MBL can track your impressions and CTR, a third party now has this information. If MBL changes its coding so that it doesn’t track clicks on the ads, then this problem disappears.
I HIGHLY doubt that Google would ban the MANY bloggers who have MBL on their site but it seems that the door is open if they do want to take action.

I think even if it’s against the TOS, Google would first tell the publishers about it via their adsense blog. The reason is simple, there’s too many sites using it - Google wouldn’t risk creating chaos banning tens of thousands of publisher for using MBL.
I think it’d clarify the matter just like it did on the pics beside the ads phenomenon that swept the adsense world like a year ago.
Anyway, from my point of view, it’s not agaist the TOS

Especially now that MyBlogLog is in the warm embrace of Yahoo!, Google will not try to rock the boat too much. I think there’s a line where Google just can’t tread without killing all the trust that they have with site owners. And for the information that MBL gathers it’s really not worth it for Google to start throwing punches.

I’ve been looking for indications of problems with using MyBlogLog and Adsense. Despite some concerns, I’ve decided to restore them until I hear more on the matter. I have to agree with Frank that Google would be making a huge mistake in rocking this boat. The last thing Google should do is behave like the 800 lb gorilla people are suspecting them to be.

No, I don’t think there’d be any problems using myBlogLog

Google has been quite evasive about the issue of MBL and Adsense. However, I can’t see them punishing bloggers who use MBL. It’s gotten to big at this point…
