Dan’s Peep At Life

October 30th, 2007 by alex

As a blogger and webmaster I have a very big list of RSS feeds in my Google Reader, (this is what I use for RSS subscriptions) which I read daily. The list contains all kind of blogs, from money makers to seo blogs and friend blogs and some of these blogs really worth mentioning them here, on Alex Blogging.

Dan’s Peep At Life” is one of those blogs. Written by Daniel Harrison this blog covers a lot of topics and shares great tips and tricks from which his readers have many things to learn.

Although I read all of Daniel’s articles with interest I enjoy more the ones that are related to webmastering and blogging because being a blogger I always try to improve my knowledge and learn new things.

What I like about Dan is that he makes time write about almost anything and also for everyone. For instance he has some good articles for newbie bloggers like Top 7 tips for brand new Wordpress blogs or you can spend time on his blog to read the latest gadgets and tech news & reviews.

In conclusion, even you are webmaster, blogger, tech addict or are you looking for some good advices about finance, jobs and more other topics I am sure you will enjoy Dan’s Peep at Life.

You comment I follow, but why ?

June 11th, 2007 by alex

Today I decided to join the “U comment I follow” campaign started by Randa Clay and I have some good reasons for that. “U comment I follow” is a campaign which is getting bigger and bigger in blogoshpere and where all is about bloggers removing the nofollow attribute for their comments links.

I have made this step with my blog - removed the nofollow for the comments links - because of 2 mainly reasons. First of all I want to show that I appreciate my commentators and give them a link to their site / blog for each comment that they write on my blog and secondly because this is a great way to gain your readers confidence, convert more readers into commentators and of course increase your readers number.

U comment I followIf you want to be apart of the “U comment I follow” campaign you can use a plugin that removes the nofollow attribute (Dofollow by Semiologic) and be sure you place a “U comment I follow” image in your sidebar, in this way your readers will know that their comments are appreciated.

Three New Plugins (for my blog)

May 24th, 2007 by alex

I have recently installed three plugins to make my blog a better one and make my work easy. First of all I must say I was receiving over 1000 spam comments and Akismet blocked all of them but it was hard for me to check if there were any good comments marked as spam so I did some searches and find out a good way to stop all that spam comments:

Math Comment Spam Protection Plugin

This plugin asks the visitor a simple math question to verify if is a machine or a human. I am really satisfied because now I have about 2-3 spam comments marked by Akismet instead of +1000.

The second plugin it was the one that ads a digg button to every post, I am talking about Digg This. It was a good plugin but to many things had to be done in order to make that button to appear and it was annoying. I thought I should remove this plugin, but I found a similar plugin which is easy to install and use:

Digg IT

This plugin allows users to submit a story to digg or if the story was already submitted it allows visitors to vote for the respective story. You can see this plugin “at work” near the title of every post in my blog.

Comments are very important for every blog, so I thought it was time to enchant a little bit my comments form with some tags (many thanks to JohnTP). Along with this plugin there are others that can help increasing comments on blogs:

Comments Quicktags

This plugin makes commenting more easy for visitors. It ads a tag bar when they can use bold or italic and even add links more quicker than before. Check out my comment form !

From Bath Tube to YouTube

May 22nd, 2007 by alex

Isn’t this the most viewed video these days ? If not, it should be… Anyway I am pretty sure you have seen this video on ProBlogger or any other blog but I am really impressed by Andy Wibbels, his ability to think about blogging all the time (even when he takes his shower) and by the wish to share his tips to the readers.

I have posted this video because I admire his devotion to the readers. If you didn’t watch it before you should do it now because is a “must see”, especially for new bloggers.

$10k from blogging ?

April 19th, 2007 by alex

Without specifying an exact amount of time I ask myself (and my readers) if is possible to make $10.000 from blogging ? Now don’t you think about answers like: “Yes, in 10 years”, I mean in a reasonable period of time. Well I think this is possible with all the option of monetization these days. You only need a domain, WordPress, some English knowledge, if that’s needed you can easly use Learn a Language and you may call yourself a blogger.

What about the $10k ? Well I think is a long way from “the domain and WordPress” to earn that kind of amount of money, but you never know, for example I made over 1000$ in 3-4 months of blogging and I own two C class blogs. I tried a lot of monetization programs like AdSense, Chitika, contextual advertising, paid posting and many others.

Now my goal is to make $10k from my blogs in a short period of time and I will try my best to do that so stay tunned for the updates and maybe you can learn something from my choices and maybe from my mistakes.

MyBlogLog looking for community manager

February 14th, 2007 by alex

Everyone knows that MyBlogLog had a good evolution and after they were buyied by Yahoo, MyBlogLog is expanding quickly and looking for new employees, more exactly they are looking for a community manager.

They don’t have many requirments for this open position and in my opinion anyone should try to apply for this job. MyBlogLog is looking for a dedicated person who is willing to help other people, resolve disputes and maybe be a apart of MyBlogLog developing team by bringing new ideas to their online community.

I would apply for this job but I am not even in the United States not to mention that they are looking for someone close to Bay Area.

You can read more about this opportunity on MyBlogLog Blog.

Full feeds in Wordpress 2.1

February 12th, 2007 by alex

One of the problems with the new version of WordPress (2.1 Ella) is that if you use < !–more– > feature to cut posts on your blog it will also cut your your feeds even if you want to show full posts to your RSS Readers.

CaveMonkey50 has developed a plugin called “Full Text Feed” that prevents WordPress 2.1+ from adding a ‘more’ link to your RSS feed and I am sure that this will help a lot of bloggers if they want to publish their full feeds.

If you think “Full Text Feed” is good for your blog you can download the plugin here.

Many thnaks to JohnTP for promoting this plugin.
